Weddings
Congratulations on your recent engagement!
We want your marriage to be a joyous, fulfilling relationship and all that God intended it to be. Marriage is a gift from God, who wants to be at the center of your marriage and to bless your life together. Because we are committed to building strong marriages we want to share guidelines and Scriptures through our Marriage Policy. It is not our intent to be judgmental; we only want to uphold God's principles for marriage.
If you are interested in knowing more about having your marriage ceremony at East 91st Street Christian Church, please follow the directions below:
1. Both bride and groom are asked to completely read the Marriage Policy. It answers a lot of questions up front including fees. If necessary you can call the church office at (317) 849-1261 and ask for the Marriage Policy to be mailed to you.
2. There is required counseling for those who get married at E91. This includes eight to ten private sessions with one of our counselors. Sessions will be about an hour and a half each session. Contact Crucible Counseling at (317) 598-1580 to set up your first appointment. Learn more...
3. After the policy has been read, call Wedding Coordinator, Lynnette Craig, at (317) 849-1261 x2332 and request the wedding date and marrying pastor.
4. This wedding date is "tentative" until an initial acquaintance appointment for the bride and groom has been completed with the marrying pastor.
5. After the appointment with the pastor, the bride and groom sign the Wedding Application & Covenant and pay the deposit. If your wedding is not at E91 but your marrying pastor is a member of the E91 staff please use the Wedding Covenant (Offsite) form. This solidifies the wedding date and a confirmation letter will be sent.
The Marriage Policy has many important details about counseling preparation for marriage, the wedding ceremony and reception options. Please read it carefully before calling the Wedding Coordinator.
FAQs:
Q: If I get married at E91, do I have to use one of your pastors?
A: Yes, only a pastor from E91 may perform the ceremony. However, other ordained/licensed pastors may assist him or her. The E91 pastor will take the lead as well as the responsibility for marriages held at East 91st Street Christian Church.
Q: What if I am a member of another church. May I still get married at E91?
A: Wedding privileges will be extended to E91 members, attendees, or people without a church home. Those who have a church home elsewhere will be encouraged to use their own facilities and will not be permitted to use those at E91.
Just as a clarification, we are not trying to be harsh or uncaring. However, we are limited to how many weddings we can have in our Sanctuary per year. Therefore, we want to be able to serve those who call E91 their home, as well as be open to those who do not have a church affiliation.
